EDUCATION

Assistance for middle and high school student program, class fee, and supplies. Vouchers also available to adults for parenting classes and employment related certifications. There may be funds for the payment for GED preparation classes and associated testing through the College of Western Idaho. Available at the Boise Community Resource Center


UTILITY ASSISTANCE

Assistance for low income households (up to 150% of Federal Poverty Levels) with winter heating costs and energy efficiency. Available approx. Oct-Mar by appointment only. To schedule an appointment please call (208) 322-1242

Assistance available once per year for United Water or Meridian Water customers (up to 150% of Federal Poverty Levels) who are facing shut-off. Also assists Boise City Utility Billing Customers. Call 345-2820 for more information.

Application processing for reduced basic telephone services and rates. Eligibility is limited to 133% of poverty guidelines. Available at the Garden City office.

The ELC hosts annual fields and activities to help students become engaged in the community in addition to the following classes:

Classes are held Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The ELC currently offers level appropriate English language instruction.  Units of instruction include the following: Basic Language, Community Services, Consumer Economics, Health, Employment, Transportation, and Housing.  Initial assessment and advancement are based upon each individual's proficiency.

Additional classes include: 

A multilevel class for elders that focuses on basic language skills, socialization, and content necessary for obtaining citizenship.

A one-week 'America as a Second Culture' orientation in which professionals from the community provide information vital to cultural integration.

A 60 hour intensive WorkStyles training focusing on job interviews and employability skills.

Industry specific, English for Special Purpose classes available by request. Classes have included warehousing, janitorial, housekeeping, production, etc.

The English Language Center uses computers to develop computer literacy and supplement skills and vocabulary covered in units in class. Computers are also used to search for employment, study for driver's license test and develop reading and writing skills.
